Concept Statement

Ripple Effect is in its rawest form a discovery of movement within water through the lens of dance. A part choreographed, part improvisational piece that seeks to stir up intrigue and discovery within the viewer. Like water, the dancers experience the violent ripples within the waters as well as its calmness.

As the lighting designer for this piece I wanted to highlight the movement of the dancers in a way that made it appear that the movement was instructing the lighting fixtures. Following the dancers as they discover new parts of the stage as well as giving them paths for their movements. Like the water they are representing I chose blues and cool whites to highlight the costumes as well as give the feeling of a crystal blue pond.
